Functional clothing and material design is large creative design area with lot of innovation possibilities. Area is linked to sportswear, streetwear and fashion as well as work wear, children’s wear and wearable technologies, accessories and performance gear. This course provides a knowledge base of the functional aspects of clothing, materials, manufacturing techniques and policies. Student understands and has an opportunity to explore new methods and technologies of making functional and technical materials and products.

Content (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Students design a functional fashion collection focusing either clothing, technical textiles, gear or accessories. Design focus is at user needs. Students will make survey about their users. The course includes realization and prototyping of the designs.

The course focuses on how innovative and functional clothing and accessory collections are created. Lectures cover the user, ergonomics, technical and performance requirements in different fields. Students deepen their design expertise in the field of functional clothing design and familiarize with the latest material development.

Before the course starts students have a possibility to visit ISPO -world largest sportswear and gear exhibition at Munich in January.

During the course students will design functional collection focusing either clothing, textiles or accessories and produce one prototype from collection.

During the course there will be material workshop and wearable workshop. Course will have many company or experts visits.
