Learning Outcomes (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

The student will learn to understand the role of conceptual design in strategic planning, competence development and stakeholder network management.

The student will learn to combine design driven insight with creative collaboration with users and stakeholders.

The student will learn to justify, communicate and evaluate a product and/or service design concept.

Content (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

The course consists of a concept design assignment completed in small teams. The assignment will frame design as a competence development and decision-making process. The design assignment will be supported by lectures, literature, tutoring sessions and a reflective essay.

Assessment Methods and Criteria (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Essay 40%, design assignment 60%

Workload (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

135h = 36h of contact teaching including lectures and reviews of student work + about 70h design work in small teams dealing with a design assignment  +  about 30h independent work on an essay and literature assignment

Study Material (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

A reading package of half a dozen of articles and/or book chapters will be announced in the beginning of the course.

Course will be organized in Shanghai in collaboration with Tongji University. The course is worth of two Chinese study credits (≈ 5 ects). Maximum of 5 students from Aalto University. In the order of registration.
