Learning Outcomes (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

The course will provide a well-rounded understanding of research and development (R&D) management in an individual business enterprise. The course provides, for future general managers, knowledge and skills needed in managing the research and development function of their companies.

Content (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Basic concepts of research and development, useful frameworks and best practices for research and development management, as well as characteristics of technological innovation are discussed. Case studies are used to enhance the analytical skills of the participants and to link the concepts and frameworks introduced during the course with their implementation and with the general management of a business enterprise.

Assessment Methods and Criteria (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Exams; individual and group assignments.

Workload (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

In the 5 cr option, the total workload is 135 hours: contact teaching 30 percent, group and individual assignments 50 percent, and preparation for the examination 20 percent.

Spring term 2020 offered only as 5 ECTS. The 5 credit option of the course TU-C3030 Basics in Research and Development (R&D) Management is designed for students who are studying for a major or a minor in Industrial Engineering and Management. The course is also open for other students. All participants will receive 5 ECTS.
