Gaining a deeper understanding of microeconomic phenomena, mastering basic tools and getting ideas for strategic economic decision-making situations.

Content (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Using game theory to analyze strategic decision-making situations and to understand oligopolistic markets, using various price differentiation strategies, understanding and solving economic problems caused by asymmetric information, understanding markets with network externalities.

Assessment Methods and Criteria (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Final grade is based on exam (50%), homework exercises (25%), and term paper (25%). In order to pass the course the student must obtain at least 50% of the possible total points for the homework exercises.

Workload (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

lectures 24 hours, review sessions 12 hours, exam 3 hours, and self-study including homework 120 hours.

Quota for exchange students is 10 students. In the case that the quota is surpassed, the students will be prioritized based on the principles of economics course (or similar course) the student has completed and the grade of that course. The exchange students should upload their transcript of records (which includes the principles of economics course) through the page "Information for Exchange Students" in the course's MyCourses page when registering to this course.

Students who passed 31C00100 Mikrotaloustiede prior to August 1st, 2018, cannot include 31C00110 in their KTK/BSc degree.

Notice that Intermediate Microeconomics (31C00100) is a prerequisite for this class. If you are planning to pass 31C00100 by the retake exam contact the instructor during the first week of classes.

However, if those who took 31C00100 in 2017 or earlier then cannot take this new class (31C00110) for credit, due to overlap in materials with the old version of 31C00100.
