On a successful completion of this course the students can:

- independently produce different texts needed in a professional artist's work, e.g. cv's bios, exhibition texts, grant applications

- analytically distinguish different text genres related to professional artist's work

- compose texts for various purposes of their own materials

- critically read and comment different types of art-related texts

- edit their own and other students' texts

  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

    The course focuses on the most common texts that are expected of professional artists and photographers. The course begins with the basics such as composing a Curriculum Vitae and a biography and moves on to texts needed when organising exhibitions or applying for grants. Also other visual arts related genres of text may be discussed on the course.

  • Applies in this implementation:

    The course is taught in Finnish and English. All assignments can be written in Finnish and/or English.

    We work on texts such as:

    - cv

    - short bio

    - artist's statement

    - project description

    - press release

    - exhibition texts

    - grant application texts

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

    Pass / fail.

    At least 80% attendance in lectures and working groups as well as successful completion all course assignments is required.

  • Applies in this implementation:

    The course is evaluated as pass/fail.

    The student will pass the course by

    1) active participation in (minimum 80% of) the course meetings and

    2) completing all groupworks and assignments.

  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

    4 ects equals a total of 108 hours of student's work. The total hours are divided into lectures, presentations, discussions, groupwork, and independent writing tasks.
