Närmare beskrivning av kursens innehåll (gäller denna kursomgång): 

On the course, we discuss the theoretical basis and professional practices of documentary photography as a critical practice.

Students will get acquainted with the historical tradition & contemporary methods of documentary photography, get to know its practitioners and produce their own documentary project.

The course consists of classroom teaching and independent working on a personal documentary photography project. 

After the workshop, students may continue their projects and join the Documentary Projects Club (meetings to be scheduled).

Typical ways of working are lectures, group discussions and practice works. Methods vary from workshop to workshop.

The course is evaluated as pass/fail.

A successful completion of the workshop requires 80% participation in classroom as well as planning, producing and presenting an independent documentary project.

Preciserad belastningsberäkning (gäller denna kursomgång): 

6 credits are earned by participating lectures and classroom teaching (approx. 63 hours) and approx. 99 hours of individual working on course assignments and own documentary project.

Workshops require knowledge of techniques and expression, that will be announced by the teacher.

The order of priority is as follows: 1. students for whom the course is compulsory for their major/programme and who have scheduled it for the current academic year in their personal study plan (HOPS); 2. exchange students for whom the course is a part of his/her officially approved learning agreement and scheduled to be taken during the current semester; 3. students for whom the course is compulsory for their major/programme and who have not completed it yet; 4. students, for whom the course is part of his/her major’s or programme’s alternative studies and has been scheduled in the student's PSP (HOPS) for the current academic year 5. students, for whom the course is part of his/her major’s or programme’s alternative studies and who have not completed the requisite number of credits for alternative studies yet; 6. students for whom the course is compulsory for their minor; 7. students, for whom the course is part of his/her minor subject’s alternative studies and who have not completed the requisite number of credits for alternative studies yet; 8. students who have applied for the course through a student mobility scheme (internal mobility within Aalto University, flexible study right (JOO) studies etc.); 9. other students.

Närmare information om tidtabellen (gäller denna kursomgång): 

Workshop days are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.

The teaching hours are always between 9.15 and 16.45. These hours are divided into classroom work (with teacher and visitors) and independent work.

An optional field flash clinique (DOM-E3030, 1 ECT, September 24–25) takes place in one of the workshop days (those who will not take the clinic can work individually on that day).

A more detailed schedule will be presented on the first day of the workshop.
