Learning Outcomes (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Understanding the basic phenomena in speech communication. Understanding
and basic skills in application of common speech processing methods,
with an emphasis on processing in the time-frequency domain.

Content (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Basics of audio signal processing. Basics of psychoacoustics and
perceptually motivated signal processing. Acoustic theory of speech
production. The functions, acoustics and modelling of the larynx
and the vocal tract. Phones and phonation. Time-frequency analysis
of speech signals. Principles of speech coding. Linear prediction
and its application in processing of speech signals. Speech
synthesis and speech recognition.

Assessment Methods and Criteria (valid 01.08.2018-31.07.2020): 

Examination and two assignments.

Elaboration of the evaluation criteria and methods, and acquainting students with the evaluation (applies in this implementation): 

Emphasis is on the 5 exercises and the intention is that the exam is not difficult if student has mastered exercises.

Weekly exercises (5 weeks), with 6 points each.

Exam with 4 questions, 6 points each (required minimum 10 points). Exhaustive list of question for the exam will be provided.

In total 54 points available.

Tentative grading: 1 - 29 points, 2 - 34 points, 3 - 39 points, 4 - 44 points, 5 - 49 points.

Exercises: 20 h

Own work: 80 h

Exam: 3 h

Attendance in the exam is compulsory.
