Details on the course content (applies in this implementation):

The course will be arranged together with UdK Universtät der Kunste Berlin.

During the
workshop we will study different kinds of "peripheral" aspects and
phenomena related to the interplay of SITE+BODY and their interconnected
spatiality and performativity in urban space and urban context.

During the
first three days at Aalto, we study PERIPHERALITY in relation to SITE/PLACE and
BODY/CORPORALITY.

We will
make inquieries on the site that we will continue working with once in Berlin.

We will
study how the space of the body expands into an experimental "stage",
"performative space" and "exhibition space".

Our
questions include: How do corporality, movement and action create a dialogical
relationship with the situational components of the created events, in which
the audience, traffic, multisensory elements, light, sound, and other components
may have multiple roles?

The
starting point of the workshop is a public square in Berlin – one of the most
central locations of the city: Platz des 18. März + Pariser Platz. It serves as
a basis for dealing with at first invisible conditions of the place, the city
and the people. We will be looking at the historical, political, utopian,
sensuous, ephemeral, atmospheric and imaginary aspects related to the site of
inquiery, taking as the point of specific interest a "peripheral"
lense.

The final
part of the workshop expands from the most central site (Platz des 18. Märtz +
Pariser Platz) towards more peripheral locations in the city.
