After completing the course, students can assess the environmental, social, economic and perceptual implications of different design, planning and management solutions. They are acquainted with and can use the main methodologies for Environmental and Landscape Assessment, both at the planning level (e.g. Strategic Environmental Assessment and Landscape Assessment) and the project level (e.g. Environmental Impact Assessment and Landscape/Visual Impact Assessment).

    After presenting the key principles of environmental and landscape assessment, the course elaborates on the available methodologies and tools for their use in the evaluation and improvement of plans and projects. At the planning level, the students are invited to learn the objectives, contents and methodologies for Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Landscape Assessment, whereas at the project scale, students are expected to do the same with other statutory tools such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or Landscape Impact Assessment.

    In addition, the course analyses the relationships between the methodologies for Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Sustainability Assessment (SUA)

    The course will include lectures and reading seminars that will provide the theoretical and methodological background to develop a PRACTICAL CASE.
