After this course, the student should be able to produce publication-quality data charts for scientific journals.

We focus on the most common chart types, yet also advanced topics, such as multidimensional charts and interactive visualisations are practiced.

The students will gain insight into the principles of the process of publication, starting from colours and graphical elements, to different requirements of various publication media.

Elaboration of the evaluation criteria and methods, and acquainting students with the evaluation (applies in this implementation): 

The progress of the students knowledge is continually assessed through exercise tasks and a self-reflection journal. Additionally, a group project is produced at the end of the first half of the course. At the end of the course, each student creates a final project, which is evaluated.

Details on calculating the workload (applies in this implementation): 

There are altogether 12 contact teaching session, 2 hours each. The sessions require preparation, for which we have planned 1 hour per week.

Self-reflection journal is calculated to take 1 hour per week for the students.

There are 12 exercise sessions, 3 hours each. Two of the sessions are reserved for the project work. In addition to the exercise sessions, an estimated 3 hours per week should be spent on the exercises.

Group work is estimated to take altogether 8 hours per week over two weeks.

The final project report is estimated to take 8 hours.
