Please note! Course description is confirmed for two academic years, which means that in general, e.g. Learning outcomes, assessment methods and key content stays unchanged. However, via course syllabus, it is possible to specify or change the course execution in each realization of the course, such as how the contact sessions are organized, assessment methods weighted or materials used.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Student knows how to identify operational constraints in current operations and services and to design solutions using emerging digital technologies to address those constraints.
Student can identify the limitations of state of the art operations management practices and critically evaluate improvement proposals.
Students understand design thinking and are able to apply innovation management concepts and frameworks for innovative operations management.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

The course is built around a number of real-life innovative solutions in operations and services. These solutions are presented by invited guest lecturers from industry and research groups. The students are this way - in class - taken to the cutting-edge of practice by the guest lecturer and challenged to address a current innovation problem. In doing so, the students will propose a real-life innovative solution.
Students will in groups work on one specific innovation problem, and evaluate solution proposals to all others presented in the course. Both solution and evaluation activities are conducted in a group. In class, innovation management theory is introduced and discussed in the context of the innovation problems and solution proposals.
An individual concluding assignment allow students to synthesize and reflect on the full course work.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

Students are assessed based on their group activities (solving the innovation task, evaluations of other student group's solution proposals) and individual work (application of innovation management theory for synthesis and reflection).

  • Applies in this implementation:

Students are required to complete the individual pre-assignment to
join the groups for design and evaluation work.

Overall assessment based on individual pre-assignment, participation in the
teaching sessions, group’s design, group’s evaluations of peer group’s designs
    assignments, and the learning diary.

Workload
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

Thematic sessions, including visiting lectures and student presentations 44h; group activity 30h; individual pre-assignment and concluding assignment 60h.

  • Applies in this implementation:

    Total 134h (Pre-assignment 14h; remote weekly teaching sessions 30h;
independent weekly study and learning diaries 48h; recap and final learning
diary 10h; Group work on design assignment 24h; group work on weekly peer
feedback and self-evaluation of own design assignment 8h
