LEARNING OUTCOMES

After successfully completing the course, the student is able to:

  • explore digital designs in the field of textiles and clothing, integrating garment shapes and textile structures through digital simulation;
  • understand the relationship between textile structures and garment shaping in digital environments;
  • become familiarized with digital environments and specific software in clothing and textile design.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    In the course, students are introduced to the basics of digital design of textiles and clothing and learn how to use specific software within these fields. The students are able to explore hands-on applications of digital prototypes. They gain an overview of how to design across different platforms and tools in digital environments and integrate textile simulations via digital prototyping.

    The course is recommended to be taken in the 1st study year. The course is intended for students without equivalent basic knowledge from BA-level studies at Aalto or at another institution. Prior discussion with the academic advisor is required.

    Assignments. 100% active attendance, of which 20% can be covered with additional assignment.

    Course workload 1 ECTS = 27 h. Participation in 80% of the contact teaching is required.
