Sustainable Entrepreneurship Course 2018
1. Learning outcomes
Students will gain a topical overview of current scholarly and policy discussions about sustainability entrepreneurship. They will learn to distinguish sustainability entrepreneurship from commercial entrepreneurship, and to critically analyse the social and ecological sustainability of current local and global business practices. To achieve this, students engage in sustainability practices in- and outside the classroom, and learn to identify practical challenges and opportunities in developing sustainable business solutions.
2. Learning content
The course focuses on the promise of entrepreneurship to play a key role in the transformation towards a more sustainable economy and society. The following themes will be covered: local and global sustainability challenges; business case for sustainability; emergent streams: energy, food and BoP ventures; defining a sustainable value proposition; financing purpose-driven ventures; cultural embeddedness of sustainable venturing; hands-on development of sustainable enterprises; and practicing decision-making towards a sustainability logic from the perspective of different stakeholders, such as entrepreneurs, organizations, policy makers and consumers.
3. Synopsis: the course
The course is needs-based and has been designed to serve multiple interests and skillsets. Therefore students can choose among several actor learning profiles to complete the course. Each student must decide upon one actor profile to deepen his/her theoretical knowledge in practice.
