How to write a learning diary?

A learning diary is a tool for reflection. It helps us (teachers) and you to evaluate what you have learned on a course. The aim of a learning diary is to summarize, analyze and comment the course and lectures and even impact on the upcoming course content and lectures.

Learning diaries should not repeat what the lecturer has said, but should reflect your own voice. It is your own analysis and insights that count. Feel free to take the ideas discussed in the class even further and elaborate as much as you can. Please avoid purely summarizing the lectures, rather focus on revealing the trains of thoughts that has been set in motion while you have been reading or discussed the topic during the class. When possible, use complementary literature to support your argumentation. At least one of the readings for the module should be referred to.

You should write a page or about 500 words and support the text with visual mind map that shows your learning progress.

The following questions may help you:

      1. What did I learn? What was new or surprising to me? Was there something that changed my perception? Why?

      2. Was there something that I didn’t understand? What went against my ideas? Why? Did I unlearn something?

      3. Was there something that I consider to be relevant for the future? How could I apply the given knowledge in the future studies and/or working life?
