The student knows packet based core network operations and entities. Based on this knowledge (s)he is able to understand the behavior of the complete network.
The course introduces backbone network implementation techniques on layers L2 and L3 . The main content is built around existing modern packet network technologies such asI IP and MPLS. New techniques (CGE, T-MPLS) which may challenge the existing techniques are introduced. Different trunk network architectures and related service architectures, data traffic control and supporting protocols are also presented. Main content of the course is about the study of different network mechanisms and protocols and their impact on the whole system behavior. We also look at the procedures for adding customers to the network and how common channel signalling is established. A big part of the course is dealing with legal and economical impacts to the network planning and provisioning of services.
