How to obtain a special assignment topic
There are three ways to obtain a topic for a special assignment
- If you work at the Department of Applied Physics (e.g. as a summer student), your group leader gives you a topic and assigns you an instructor.
- You suggest a topic to one of the supervisors of the course. In this case, you should also suggest someone as an instructor.
- You ask one of the supervisors of the course for a topic. Sometimes there are topics available for anybody to take, but this depends on the supervisor and many other things. There is no central listing of available topics.
When selecting the topics the recommendation is to choose different kinds of special assignments, in case more than one is included in the studies. The special assignments allow the students to get acquainted with different topics in research and technology.
When you plan your last special assignment, you may also choose a topic that introduces you to the topic of your master’s thesis.
If you want to do a special assignment outside the Department of Applied Physics
You can do your special assignment on the topic of your choice or on a topic commissioned by another institution or a company. However, you should take into consideration the following points:
- The plan for the special assignment must be carefully and minutely written and it must be accepted by the supervisor before you can start working on it.
- The special assignment must have an instructor whom the supervisor has accepted. The instructor for your special assignment is accepted together with the plan. The instructor must work in the company where the work is done, and must have personal interest and capacity to instruct you not only on subject matters, but also on writing the report.
- You cannot claim credit points for training or Company Internship
