    Motivation

    The physics special assignment are often done on topics that are highly interesting to the scientific or technical community. Well-prepared special assignment reports can therefore be a valuable resource to a broader audience. In fact, special assignment projects done in an academic research group often contribute to a peer-reviewed scientific journal publications prepared by the research team.

    An alternative or additional way to communicate the results of the project to a wider audience is to publish the final report in the Aaltodoc archive (https://aaltodoc.aalto.fi/).

    It can be motivating for the student to know that the fruits of his/her hard work can be made publically available. An outstanding public special assignment report can also help the student establish a good professional reputation early on in his/her career. Nevertheless, publishing a special assignment report in Aaltodoc is entirely optional to the student, and can only be done with the student’s permission.


    Permissions for publication

    For publishing the special assignment report in Aaltodoc, permission is required at least form the student, the instructor, and the supervisor. The student and the instructor are jointly responsible to obtain permissions also from other persons, companies or institutions who have authorship or ownership on the contents or results included in the written report.

    For considering the authorship, permissions and publicity, the same principles apply as for scientific publishing in general. The student should discuss these principles with the instructor or the supervisor.
