Topic outline

  • Based on the amount of the credit points, the 10 cr course requires roughly 270 hours of work. Bearing this in mind, every special assignment should be completed (including the written report) within 3 to 5 months. This corresponds to working 13 to 20 hours a week on the special assignment.

These time limits should be observed. If the amount of work seems to expand, the student should consult the instructor and the supervisor. The instructor's responsibility is to make sure that the amount of work is properly estimated before starting the work.

It is important to start writing the report early on instead of leaving it all to the end of the project. It is recommended that the written reports of special assignments carried out as a summer student in the Department of Applied Physics are completed by the end of the summer.

If the student wants to claim credit points for training for the same period that he/she has used for the special assignment, the time estimated for training is not included into the amount of working time used on the special assignment.

It is wise to concentrate on one special assignment at a time.
