  • You will have a future. Who owns your future? If you don't, somebody else does.  Don't wait what happens next. Decide what happens next!

During your studies, investigate the career opportunities open to you: what can you do with your degree? Get ideas from companies, alumni, mentoring programmes, career services, fellow students, teachers, your network etc.

The world of work is changing: certain jobs have disappeared, others will emerge. The idea of a steady work path is outdated. Non-standard forms of employment, such as part-time work or fixed-term contract work, seem to be - in many, but not all, cases - the outcome of individual choices. Entrepreneurship is valued, as there are examples that show that you can make a decent living as an entrepreneur. The key of planning your life and career is to find activities that meet your interests and values and while being meaningful and beneficial to the community and the environment.

An entry level job doesn't determine your identity until retirement. A degree is only a ticket to working life; anything can happen after that. It takes courage, adaptability, identity building and active searching to find a place in the world of work. Understand the multitude of choices and opportunities that you have and find ways of making your life the best it can be.

Now that you have completed the career planning exercises, you have reflected some of the generally relevant areas in career planning process. Hopefully you have found new thoughts about your values, strengths and possibilities and you are better prepared for finding an attractive future. What would be fun to learn next? Start exploring and making your own decisions! New visions will give you courage and reasons to search for a fulfilling life. We wish that you will succeed!

    Plans for the near future

    • Recognize and understand your skills and strengths, believe in yourself. It will get you recruited.
    • Challenge yourself: get out of comfort zone!
    • Make a good CV, portfolio, LinkedIn profile or other job search document and find a way to remind yourself of updating it regularly.
    • Grow your network: Get to know people, they are your future colleagues.
    • Don't wait what happens next. Decide what happens next!

    The tale of two wolves

One evening a grandmother told her grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. She said, 'my grandson, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.’

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandmother: ‘Which wolf wins?’ The grandmother simply replied, ‘The one you feed.’
