Topic outline

  • Life cycle phases

Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a method for quantifying environmental impacts of a product or a building. For architects and building designers this is an essential tool, if we wish to maximise our potential in the mitigation of climate change.

This course consists of online lectures and classroom calculation exercises. You will be calculating the carbon footprint of a building or its part. This can be carried out either with the help of simple Excel template or more sophisticated LCA tool called One Click LCA.

For this course you need to have access to bill of materials of a building. You may choose the building freely. If you cannot find anything, there is something in reserve.

This course is worth minimum 2 credits. If you do broader life cycle analysis, there will be more credits. There will be no exam, but you need to complete and return a calculation report.
