Part I introduces some of currently used production systems, highlights important properties and discusses their disadvantages and disadvantages.
- Bacteria (E. coli and prokaryotic alternatives)
- Lower eukaryotes (yeasts and fungi)
- Higher eukaryotes (plants, mammals and insect cells)
-
The focus of part II is on recombinant protein production and how productivity can be increased or new products be generated. We'll revisit selected cellular processes such as protein N-glycosylation, protein folding, secretion and see how these processes can be modified and improved.
-
Part III focuses on the production of small molecules being either products derived from primary or secondary metabolism. We will discuss a number of representative products and use these examples for highlighting some essential points.
