The opening lecture of the course is in the lecture hall T1 of the CS building on Monday September 10th, 2018, at 14:15-16:00, welcome!
This year the course is shared between the Bachelor's programme "Teknistieteellinen kandidaattiohjelma" (in Finnish) and the study option "Data Science" of the "Aalto Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology" (in English). Therefore, the language of the course is English and all the communication in MyCourses, the study material, the obligatory on-line exercises as well as the exams will be in English. However, Finnish translations of the lecture slides are provided, the course personnel can speak Finnish as well, and there are exercise groups having a Swedish speaking assistant.
This course is mainly targeted for the students of the School of Science and the Data Science Bachelor's Programme. Thus it has the course "CS-A1120 Programming 2" as a prerequisite. That is, ability to program in Scala as well as knowledge of the concepts of recursion, O-notation etc from ICS-A1120 are assumed. The course "CS-A1141 Data structures and algorithms Y" is in Python and primarily targeted for the students not from the School of Science. Important: if you are unsure which course version to take, or more generally, whether you should take this course CS-A1140 (or CS-A1141), please consult your study guide and the study coordinator of your study programme as soon as possible!
