Learning outcomes of the week
After this week, you should be able to:
- Grasp the development of the Hellenistic world view that led to the evolution of modern scientific astronomy, and - curiously- imposed a dead end to the very same thing for hundreds of years.
- Describe the development of the prevalent cosmological hypotheses and observational astronomy until the end of the 19th century.
- Be familiar with the structure of our stellar and galactic neighbourhoods.
- Separate basic types of galaxies and recognise galaxy mergers.
