Topic outline

  • Assignment information will be added in near future.

Assignments programme will be explained during the first lecture on Wednesday 9.1.2019 in hall 215 in Konetekniikka 1 (Otakaari 4).

Assignments comprise of working with GIS software in pairs (A-1, A-2, A-3, and A-7), working in teams of four students on texts, with cameras and software (A-4, A-5, and A-6). Each assignment is instructed so that you can do them in your own time, however, keeping the timeframe given in the programme below.

The timetable allows some flexibility in planning your own work, but prepare to work on weekly basis. Estimated workload of the assignments corresponds the maximum points marked in the programme (1 point ~ 1 working hour), in total about 60 working hours. That means about 12-14 hours of work each week.

The assignment sessions on Monday and Friday mornings (in class Maari C-D-E) starting on Monday the 14th of January are to support you with the GIS assignments. Teaching assistants are present and help you if need (queue list is used). However, participation in these sessions is not mandatory.

    • If you are not familiar with using GIS software, such as ArcGIS, you'll get a better start with the assignments if you do little training first. Let's use the materials provided by ESRI, the company behind ArcGIS.
