  • Second Slot for Final Exam:

    Wed 05.06.2019 at 13:00 - 16:00, R001/Y313

Looking forward to seeing you there!

    Greetings. Marcus Greferath.

    Dear all:

as discussed at length in class, here is the time and venue for our final exam:

    Wed 29.05.2019 at 12:00 - 15:00, R001/Y313

The exam will be closed book, however you will be allowed to take a cheat-sheet of one page A4, arbitrarily densely written into the exam, if you feel nervous and have difficulties to memorize details under stress.

It has been a great time for me to work with you, and I was very happy to see the high attendance rate during my sessions. Please come to the final exam and give it a try. I am very confident that your efforts will be rewarded.

Greetings, and see you in class.

    Marcus Greferath.

    Bibliography:

Regarding the question, if there are any textbooks that I can recommend for studies beyond my hand-written notes. For this purpose, have a look at the following:

    1. Dummit and Foote: Abstract Algebra. ISBN 978-0471433347.
    2. Hungerford: Algebra. ISBN 978-0387905181.
    3. Biggs: Discrete Mathematics. (a lot of the basics of this course can be found in this book as well).
    4. Lang: Undergraduate Algebra. ISBN 978-0-387-27475-1, an excellent book.
All these books are expensive, however the library might have them for you. Some of them seem to be available as pdf- or epub-files  in the web. I am not completely sure about the legal status of such copies, so take this as a warning.

Should you have further questions, then please do not hesitate approaching me via email or in class.

    General Arrangements:

For those, who could not make it into the first session: We have only covered general recap on groups. Moreover, we have decided to compute a final grade from your result in homework assignments (40% weight) and a final exam (60% weight), where the final exam will count 100%, should this be of advantage for the candidate. Regarding the exact date of the final exam, I have not been able to find out anything so far. Will keep you posted, though.

    Materials and Assignments:

You will find Materials like typeset or handwritten notes of mine in the "Materials"-section of this page. And you will find the respective homework assignments in the "Assignments"-section.
