sessions cancelled – we switch to remote working In
view of the COVID-19 pandemic, Aalto University is switching to remote working
during week 12. To be ahead of the curve, we cancel the rest of our Otaniemi
classes and complete our course through MyCourses and via email. The teaching
team are hard at work making sure that this will not hinder your learning
experience. The
second book exam on 2 April is not a problem. You will get the questions
via email and MyCourses at 4 pm, and you will have three hours to complete your
answers and send them to me. If you need special arrangements, let me know and
we’ll sort it out. So, keep reading the book on Political Philosophy and
preparing your answers. The
general arrangement for the remaining five lectures is as follows. I
suggest that you keep doing the tasks, if you can, during the designated class
hours. You have, after all, carved out the time for them anyway, and it will
make our work together easier and more orderly. At
the interval between any two lectures, you will receive specific instructions for
the next lecture and (if deemed necessary by the lecturer) additional
reading materials. Familiarise yourselves with the additional materials, if
they are provided. At
4 pm on teaching days, the lecture PowerPoints will appear in MyCourses,
with email alerts. Your tasks then are: 1) Familiarise yourself with the lecture’s
PowerPoint presentation. 2) Formulate two clever questions
about the presentation. 3) Do the groupwork by yourself (if
there are multiple groups, any group will do) and put together a concise
report. 4) Complete
the additional task based on the additional reading, if there is one. 5) Send
your two questions, groupwork, and additional task to the lecturer (cc me in,
so that I can stay in the loop). 6) Prepare
to continue the conversation on your work with the lecturer or me. We
may deem this useful from time to time, just to make sure that you stay on
track for the highest marks. Lecturer emails: maarit.laihonen@aalto.fi - J.Rintamaki@lboro.ac.uk Our course assistant Leni will be in touch with you
later about returning the exam books to the course library. My specific instructions for Monday’s work to
follow. This will be a little bit different, and details may
yet change, but I am confident that we can make it work. Our motto is, “Twenty
started, twenty will finish.” We try to aim at a workload, task variety, and performance
that will ensure you an enjoyable learning experience and full study points with
the highest marks. To greatness and beyond!
