Welcome to the course of
Thermal Energy Storage Systems
Where you will learn to use these systems to solve the Helsinki Energy Challenge!
https://energychallenge.hel.fi/
Are you interested in decarbonising heating in the future? Do you want to work on a real life challenge, and maybe even get involved in a consortium to win €1mn to decarbonise Helsinki's heating?
We can't promise you will win €1mn, but we can promise you will learn about new heating solutions, and have fun!!
In the future, it will be very important to better control thermal flows to be able to store heat using different solutions. On this course we will take holistic look on the future strategy on thermal energy flow control, including possible heat storage. This is not a topic for one particular discipline only and therefore we invite students from broad variety of backgrounds. We will have presentations from different disciplines from academia and industry.
On the Spring semester 2020 the course will be held at time period between 2.3-29.4.2020.
This course will be a challenge-based project course, where you will work in teams to solve a real life challenge, as follows:
The Helsinki Energy Challenge:
How to decarbonise the heating system in Helsinki with as little biomass as possible
....and with maximum use of Thermal Energy Storage & complementary technologies
The challenge launches on 27th February 2020 and you can read about it at https://energychallenge.hel.fi/
