During the course some homework assignment will include writing short essay answers.
With essay, we
mean here a short, structured text that provides analytical discussion of
the given topic / question.
Check the peer assignment criteria to of each assignment to get an idea how the essay will be assessed. For example, in the peer assesment of the pre-reading assignments, it will be assessed how well:
- the essays shows that the student has understood the article(s),
- the essay provides thoughtful discussion and logical reasoning or other kind of justification for the answers, and
- the essay demonstrates original/personal/new thinking by the student, inspired by the articles.
In this respect, the essay answers maybe closest to a “formal essay” of an “argumentative” form and style (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essay), however, the form and style is flexible and can be also creative, as long as the author thinks he/she can demonstrate the assesment criteria to his/her peers while answering the assignment's questions.
