SARK-E5022 Service Design for Interior Architects, 2-5 cr, 13.9.–18.10.2019
The Service Design for Interior Architects course provides an introduction to service design methods in the context of spatial design and interior architecture. We study the reciprocal relationship between space and services, learn basic service design methods and rehearse the application of the methods in interior architecture. The course has two parts: theory and method part (2 cr) that builds the knowledge base through lectures, reading tasks and weekly assignments, and design part (3 cr) where the methods are applied into a design project. The course is suitable to master's students from any area of design or architecture.

The Design Project in 2019: Otaniemi Library
In 2019, the course is organised with Otaniemi upper secondary school
and Espoo City Library. Otaniemi upper secondary school (Otaniemen lukio) is a
new school with nearly 900 students situated in a
former office building in Tietotie 6. The Espoo City Library is opening a library in the ground floor of the school
building. Our design task is to develop spatial and service concepts for the library, utilising service design methods and engaging the users into

- Teaching hours are Fridays between 9:15–15 (not
always the whole day).
- Location is Väre
building, Otaniementie 14.
- Some meetings are held in Otaniemi upper secondary school, Tietotie 6.
