Good Life Engine is a new course that takes you to a journey into yourself and helps you develop habits and routines for acquiring new skills and a better life. True change takes time, which is why you’ll make small, one-minute decisions every day for nine months, with monthly sessions for reflection and guidance.

Good life engine is a nine-month routine and time management course that is designed to supplement other courses, work, lifelong learning, or personal growth by providing dynamics and models for structuring time. It introduces the small daily activities, routines and habits as the foundation for an enterprise or an entrepreneurially-minded job. It gives the students the possibility to practice expressing their values and goals through action. This “action” helps the students to tailor a personalized skillset aligned with professional and personal values and support the set goals.
This course can be either a follow up or a supplement to philosophy and value thinking done in Persona Impact and such courses as TU-A1140 Leading and Understanding Oneself (3cr, III-IV), the 21C03000 - Current Issues in Leadership
The added value of this course is to provide the needed timeframe where sustainable changes can be completed, and new lasting change gets underway.
The skill that we teach – to build and maintain a routine
The narrative of the course is first to familiarize the students with the concept of steady, daily process and incremental changes. After the introduction, the focus will be on the practice for the strong base. Once the understanding of the importance of building of the base is on the way, students can start to work on the routines more suitable to their disciplines and personal goals.
In the latter part of the course, the focus is shifted into expansion and scalability and new applications of the methods. End of the course will focus on sustainability, and how to maintain the positive change and drive it forward by transforming good routines into habits. The main structure of the process is to facilitate execution during the 9-month period. Every month an open event would provide new perspectives on skills routines and time management.
Learning outcomes (based on Bloom’s hierarchy of cognitive domains)
Using the concept of learning by doing students will get certain practice to understand, explain and master routines for personal growth.
After the course the student will be able:
· to execute personal routines practices;
· to recognize patterns and rhythms in their lives.
· to familiarize with different methods & approaches for sustainable life;
· to break down big work goals into daily decisions, actions, routines;
Pedagogical methods of the course:
· Peer-to-peer learning (peer discussions)
· Flipped classroom
· Learning by doing
· Individual learning (individual essays and learning logs)
· Experience learning through TARTAR model of teaching (T = Theory, A = Action, R = Reflection)
· Case teaching
Assessment Methods and Criteria
The course is graded based on individual performance.
As the final outcome, students will create a work portfolio of personal growth. The portfolio should include the reflections from the sessions and the routines report.
In addition, the portfolio should include the visual representation of students' vision of themselves (design project) accompanied by a 1-page report of the study progress. At the end of the course, those students who want may exhibit their design projects. To get a pass all the students should show their design projects to the teachers. Teachers guarantee confidentiality.
Grading is pass/ fail.
The course is a 5 ECTS credits course – 135 h.
Besides contact sessions, students should work individually for approximately 10 h. per month to execute chosen by themselves routines and exercises
aligned with workshops content.
Language of instructions and studies - English
Teachers will work as facilitators, advisors of methods, but not of the content in terms of student’s personal life. All personal information shared during the course is confidential and will not be shared publicly. Sharing during contact sessions is beneficial but not mandatory. There are no right and wrong answers as well the critical feedback. All the experience of students is truly personal and could not be assessed. Teachers will assess only participation and persistence in routines execution. All participants decide by themselves how far they are ready to go into the process. The course is a personal project and students choose themselves what they want to execute.
The course is designed in cooperation with Aalto University psychologist to secure the mental health of participants.
