Session 3: weeks 22-23
Please, find here: the summary of your first learning logs
In the third session we will concentrate on curriculum work. As a teaching and learning method, we use puzzle (jigsaw) method.
Phase 1
Working in expert‐groups divided by topic. All the group members have read the same material.
Groups:
1. Rahul, Maria, Karl, Aino
2. Suvi, David, Gopika, Hosein, Chamseddine
3. Kaie, Serenay, Shaoxiong, Riina
4. Fredrik, Bassam, Lotta, Sedigheh
Phase 2
Arrange a virtual meeting with your group and discuss about the read material and topic. The one whose name is mentioned first and is bolded, could invite the other participants together. It is recommended to arrange the meeting by the end of this week (week 22), in order to keep on the schedule.
In a virtual meeting, the group
- discusses the topic (reading material),
- defines the main points and summarizes this on a paper/slides/etc.
- note down if something is unclear
Every member in a group gets ready to teach/present the main points of the topic in another group (during 1.-3.6.)
Phase 3
Experts on each topic will be divided in new groups. You will have another meeting with a new group (during 1.-3.6.) and the work continues.
The "old" groups:
1. Rahul, Maria, Karl, Aino
2. Suvi, David, Gopika, Hosein, Chamseddine
3. Kaie, Serenay, Shaoxiong, Riina
4. Fredrik, Bassam, Lotta, Sedigheh
The new groups:1. Rahul, Suvi, Kaie, Fredrik
2. Maria, David, Serenay, Bassam
3. Karl, Gopika, Shaoxiong, Lotta
4. Aino, Hosein, Chamseddine, Riina, Sedigheh
The last, whose name is underlined could call the group together for a virtual meeting. Arrange a meeting during 1.-3.6.
What to do and discuss in a new meeting ?
The experts in each group will teach their topic in this order:
a) Learning outcomesb) Students’ workloadc) Teaching methodsd) AssessmentIf there are unclear issues, please write them down.
Phase 4
Back to the expert-groups
You can do this closing discussion in two alternative ways: either by online discussion through Zoom/Teams or by discussing in your group's discussion forum below.
Go back to your ”topic group” and discuss together:
- What do you think about curriculum work as a whole? What is easy or challenging?
- Did you learn something new about your topic after you worked in a mixed group?
- Could you use the method (puzzle) in your teaching?
Assignments for the 4th session
More detailed instructions can be found inside the activities.- This is an additional material to support you when you write your teaching practice plan.
