Project work - planning an experiment Assignment
Write a plan for an X-ray scattering experiment, either at a laboratory source or a synchrotron (deadline May 31, 2021). The topic can be chosen based on your own research interests. The length should be 2-3 pages. You can use an existing template, such as the one from ESRF or MAX IV. The plan should include the following content:
- Summary of the aims and scientific basis of the proposal (What is the scientific problem you are planning to solve with this X-ray scattering experiment?)
- Scientific background (Why do you do this research?)
- Details of the proposed experiment (What X-ray scattering technique/setup are you planning to use? How exactly are you planning to carry out the experiment? What are the samples?)
- Justification of the beamtime and beamline/device (Why is it necessary to use this particular X-ray scattering technique/equipment to solve your scientific problem? How much time will the experiment take?)
- Results expected and their significance in the respective field of research (What results are you expecting to get from the scattering experiment? How will you analyse the data to obtain the results? Why are the results important?)
For information and helpful resources, see the Materials page. You may also use the discussion forum to ask questions. - Summary of the aims and scientific basis of the proposal (What is the scientific problem you are planning to solve with this X-ray scattering experiment?)
