Topic outline
-
This week we are going to cover how to work with the laser and vinyl cutter. You will iterate on your CAD design skills to create a press-fit kit and learn critical limitations of the machines available at the lab.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate and describe parametric 2D modelling processes.
- Identify and explain processes involved in using the laser cutter.
- Develop, evaluate and construct the parametric construction kit.
- Identify and explain processes involved in using the vinyl cutter.
Learning Materials
- Global lecture: Wed 10 Feb 16:00 (slides, video)
- Local lecture: Thu 11 Feb 15:00 (slides, video)
- Global recitation: Mon 15 Feb 16:00 (slides, video)
All lectures online. Consult General Information section for video call links.
FAQ
- What does characterize mean?
- Describe/understand the nature and features (of your particular laser cutter)
- Can I use the Inkscape clone tool for my press-fit kit?
- No. The clone tool is not a real parametric software.
- What is valid for a construction kit?
- Something more than a finger joint box that you can assemble multiple ways.
- Is it compulsory to design my own file in Vinyl cutting?
- No, but you must acknowledge where you found it.
