  • Article review group presentation

    Guidelines

    In a group of 3-4 students, your task is to review an article by summarizing and discussing its key concepts and insight provided on industrial service operations (in your own words). You are expected to 1) prepare a presentation with slides and 2) record a 10-15min long video. Each group will review one article. 

    Please form a group by using the "Article review group choice" function in the MyCourses workspace.

    In the review, you should focus on the key take-aways from the article and describe the key points people should learn from the paper. 

    In addition, analyze the main contribution of the reviewed article (e.g. concepts, frameworks, propositions, models, theories) or the value provided in the paper for business practitioners in terms of recommendations, guidelines, experiences, best practices or other valuable knowledge.

    An example presentation structure could include

    1. What did the article study and why is it important?
    2. What did the study find, what were the results?
    3. Why the results were important, what new did we learn? 
    4. Your personal reflection on the study, your opinions?
    5. You may also want to add examples of further readings on the topic (optional).


    Requirements

    • The presentation recording is expected to be 10-15min long.  
      • How many slides you use; who will do the talking etc. is up to you.
    • Submit a pdf of your presentation slides and the recorded video (max 200Mb) - or a link to it in some video sharing service. Link to video is preferred.
      • If you provide a link to a video, include the link on the 1st page of your submitted presentation slides. 
      • Be sure to check the video is accessible to Aalto users with the link i.e. check that the link works.
    • You are free to use tools of your choice for recording the video. These could be e.g
      • Zoom (a recorded Zoom meeting with screensharing)
      • Aalto Panopto
    • Presentation slides:
      • If you provide a link to the presentation, don't forget to provide the link to it on the first page!
      • Include the name of the article and names of the students in the team on the title page of your slides.
      • Include a table of how you divided your work per team member in the end of the submitted pdf (no need to discuss this in the presentation).
    • NOTE: Do not include your student number in the returned files. This is to protect your privacy  e.g. when course results are published using just the student number. Your fellow students will peer-review your work and staff can allocate your results correctly with MyCourses groups.

    Submitting the presentation and doing peer-reviews
    • One -and only one- from the team student submits the work to the workshop.
      • So only one submission is needed per team, but everyone in the team should ensure that the presentation files are submitted.
      • This has the known downside that only the team-member who submitted the files gets to see the peer-assessments in MyCourses (we do expect you to share the results within the team).
      • But this is a necessary compromise as MyCourses Workshop-activity unfortunately does not support submitting in groups and then submitting peer-reviews individually.
      • We will compile team results for article reviews separately outside MyCourses.
    • DL for presentation submission is always on the Monday evening, and DL for the peer-review then on Tuesday evening before the lecture on Wednesday.
    • Peer-reviews are done individually, not in teams. You will not review your own presentation.
    • Peer-reviews assess the presentation on the following criteria (each on 0-5 scale):
      • How well the presentation succeeded in identifying the key messages in the article (content)?
      • How easy was it to understand and follow the presentation (argumentation)?
      • How well the structure, delivery, and slides of the presentation supported the argumentation and understanding of the content (presentation quality)?


    Evaluation

    • Presentation:
      • You get the same score as your teammates
        • (unless there is need to adjust evaluation within teams due to uneven contribution).
      • Evaluation is based on the peer-reviews.
      • Staff will 'check' that peer-reviews are aligned and will adjust any and all results if deemed necessary.
    • Peer-reviews: 
      • On each of the 8 peer-reviews you will get a score from 0-5.
      • This score is calculated by an algorithms that compares how well your assessment of the presentation matches with the assessments of all other students. Better the match, better your score.
      • In other words, doing an objective review of the presentation increases the likelihood of your review matching the reviews of other students.
      • If you miss the DL for a peer-review you will get 0p. No extensions, no exceptions.
