The exercise on Mekong IWRM introduces you to the concept of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and its key themes.
For more information on IWRM, see GWP's website and its relevant publications (particularly GWP 2000 report) as well as information on IWRM in the UN's SDGs monitoring website, including UN-Water guide on monitoring SDG6 as well as SDG6 Progress Report on IWRM. Also read carefully through the Tuesday's Contact Session's slides as well as the Friday's exercise session slides that will be added below.
As a practical context, the exercise focuses on the operation of Cambodia’s Lower Sesan 2 hydropower dam, including its links to local and national level as well as to the transboundary Mekong River. The operation of the dam is looked at from three complementary themes related to Integrated Water Resources Management i.e. IWRM: economic, social and environmental aspects.
The exercise is introduced and the thematic IWRM groups defined in the Contact Session on Tuesday 18.5 at 9-12 at Zoom. The actual exercise is implemented in four phases:
- Introduction to the exercise during Contact Session on 18.5
- Independent Work 18.-21.5
- IWRM Session on Friday 21.5
- Personal Reflection by Friday 28.5.
These phases and their deadlines as well as other information on the exercise can be found from the Mekong IWRM exercise document below: read it carefully!
The submission forum for the independent exercises can be found below. The group work will be documented in Miro.
