Topic outline

  • Explorative Samples

Your initial task for the Explorative Sample projects is to research and generate individual concepts and project ideas. This concept development and research sets the ground for your ideas within Studio courses as well as creation of your explorative sample(s) collection.

Each student should document their work process and maintain developing their research books/diaries for the duration of the course. The research books will be part of the final Exhibition of the course.

Based on the mind maps and concept development workshops during the first day:

     - Go through your findings and create 2 moods, narratives or themes (juxtaposing/corresponding/opposing ideas)

    -  Start illustrating the ideas with images, materials and sketches

     - Collect the visuals, words, and stories in a research/process book. You can also present your ideas as a mood board or with juxtaposing pictures.

The visual research and the atmospheres you have created will guide you when developing your explorative samples:

    - Generate material associations from your visual research

    - Define techniques that express your ideas

    - Express your project ideas and mood through experimental textiles/materials

(Revisit the presentation Concept Development And Visual Research under Presentations Section for further information and accomplishing your task)

The extent of the workload for Explorative samples is defined based on your prearranged selections in the course (your selection of studio courses / ENGARTs). In short the following presents your workload for Explorative samples projects in the course:

    = Larger Workload

FOR STUDENTS IN 2 STUDIO COURSES (6 or 7 cr. Studio Courses +  3 or 4 cr. Explorative = 10 cr.)

    = Smaller Workload

FOR STUDENTS IN ENGARTs PROJECT (5 cr. ENGARTs + 5 cr. Explorative = 10 cr.)

     = Larger Workload
