Topic outline

  • Learning Diary

The learning diaries is a continuous document, wich is divided in three parts each building on the previous. The learning diaries should reflect the evolution of your learning process. A learning diary is individual, it includes reporting on your thinking and personal reflections from your project work, readings and course activities from the last two weeks.

    Submission dates:

    • Learning Diary Part 1: Friday 24.09 by 18h
    • Learning Diary Part 2: Friday 08.10 by 18h (building on Part 1)
    • Learning Diary Part 3: Tuesday 26.10 by 18h (building on Part 2 and 1)

    Purpose:

The purpose of the learning diary is to guide your own learning process and to help you realise your own critical reflections; to document and reflect on your learning process in light of the course lectures, readings, workshops, and other individual and group activities. This enables you to become better aware of what you have learned as well as what you need to learn. It helps you keep your eyes open and raise your awareness of your own subjective experiences related to the course topic. (Pleasee read the attached file below on Critical Reflections)

In addition, learning diaries present the teaching staff with your own account of your progress and learning throughout the course. This provides the teaching staff with an outcome that is used for your individual evaluation. Therefore, it is important to share your reflections on your learning, and insights on lectures and literature, instead of merely listing a summary of what happened during the week. (Please read the attached file below on Critical Reflections)

What should be included in the learning diaries?

    • An evolution of your learning, building on the previous learning diary (Part 2 and 3)

    2. Project work: your learnings from your project work activities and design process from the past week and current week group work
    3. Personal critical reflections:  your own critical reflections, questions, insights from the learning process. Their relations to ongoing activities and the bigger picture. (Please read the attached file below on Critical Reflections)
    • There are weekly themes/readings that should be reflected in your writing
    • Use of appropiate citation and referencing to articiles, image captions, etc.
    • You can also add images, mind maps, drawings, sketches, quotations etc.
    • Format: MS Word/RTF/PDF
    • Language: English; Acceptable Formats
    • Length: Learning Diary 1 aprox. 800 words (A4), Learning Diary 2 & 3 aprox. 1000 words

    Evaluation:

    • Part 1 and 2 (Not graded): You will receive feedback to guide your learning and reflections and help you improve towards Part 3.
    • Part 3 (Graded): It shows what you learned in this course, and corresponds to 30 % of the overall evaluation grade.  The evaluation focuses on how the student is able to communicate reflections and insights that show a learning process by referencing to literature, lectures and other timely activities. This evaluation is also influenced how the student follows the given timelines.
