Topic outline

  • THE Three COURSES - Introduction to SQL, Intermediate SQL and Joining Data in SQL need to be completed in a specific order.

You need to start with the Introduction to SQL, then move to the Intermediate SQL and then to Joining Data in SQL

This module focuses on providing you with an understanding of database management. First, you will delve into the concepts of relational databases, which provide a crucial foundation for most of the modern integrated AISs. Second, you will learn about XBRL, and its potential in accounting. Third, this module will introduce you to the basics of SQL (Structured Query Language) and some advanced functions. After providing you with the conceptual foundations of SQL, you will get to set your skills as a Data Scientist into practice running SQL yourself in the SQL Practice Assignment! In fact, SQL is rated among the most essential skills among Data Scientists and a host of business job openings require a foundational level SQL knowledge. As such, now is your time to develop your skills from the overall themes of database management to mastering practical means to create tables as well as retrieve and manipulate data in databases using SQL!

After studying this module, you will be able to:

    • Explain relational databases and relational database management systems (RDBMS) on a profound level
    • Describe XBRL, its potential, and applications
    • Discuss SQL basics and its applications
    • Understand and run basic and some advanced SQL in practice

To monitor your progress using the completion bar, be sure to perform and check off all activity items at the bottom of this section. The instructors will not monitor your activity completion status but strongly encourage you to keep track to successfully complete this course.

DataCamp Assignments (35p): Introduction to SQL (7p), Intermediate SQL (14p),

    Joining Data in SQL (14p)

The SQL Practice Assignment will be completed using DataCamp, which is an interactive learning platform that teaches topics related to data science. This assignment entails completing the courses "Introduction to SQL" (2h), Intermediate SQL (4h), and Joining Data on SQL (4h). The courses provide you the opportunity to learn SQL in practice by completing quizzes and assignments as a part of the 10 hour course grouping/module. You don't have to install anything, but an Internet connection is required to do assignments on DataCamp.
We strongly encourage you to start completing this course parallel to Modules II-VI to get the most out of your learning. These SQL Practice Assignments will contribute 35 points towards your overall grade.
