Topic outline

  • Format
Each student participates in 3 exercises chosen at will out of the six offered. Every student writes one full report on one of those exercises. Additionally, each student submits answers to the other two exercises in a relaxed format ("lomake" = form, answer sheet, questionnaire, etc), which involves data analysis without a structured document. From each exercise session that you attend to, exactly one submission (report or lomake) is expected from you. All work shall be completed and all assignments accepted during one semester, i.e., the course must be finished at one go.

    Timing

The measurements last 2-3 hours each. We try to start the exercise sessions early in period III, but due to various space-time limitations, the exercises are scattered unevenly on the spring semester, up to period V. There is some flexibility in the work times, but usually each exercise is given within two to three weeks.

Instructions are published in MyCourses. They shall be read thoroughly before coming for the exercise session, because the assistant will have an oral exam before the exercise. Every participant must have prepared for the exercise. In the worst case, the assistant may disqualify you and ask you to come back later.

    Report

A full report is written by everybody on one exercise, which can be selected at will. The first version of the report shall be delivered to the assistant within 3 weeks of the measurement session. The assistant will review the report and give oral feedback, after which there is one more week to make a second, improved version of the report. The final grade for each report is the average grade of the first and second version.

    Lomake assignments

The remaining two exercises by each student are reported as lomake assignments, which contain only the pertaining data analysis, where answers are typed in a ready-made form, with attached graphs or other supporting material. The lomake must be submitted to the assistant within three weeks after the session. In contrast to the report, there will be no second chance to improve.

    Grading

The report is graded in the scale 0...10 points. The lomake assignments are graded in the scale 0...5 points. Giving course feedback will provide an additional point.

The course itself will be graded in the normal 0-5 scale. Provided that all three outputs have been accepted, the following scale will be used:

    18<21 - grade 5
    16<18 - grade 4
    14<16 - grade 3
    12<14 - grade 2
    10<12 - grade 1
    0<10 - grade 0

The grades will be registered to the university system only after all participants have completed their assignments.

If you have questions concerning a given exercise, please contact the assistant. If your question concerns the course as a whole, contact the course coordinator.
