Översikt

  • This week, you will use the time to review all the coursework to make sure you have done them. You should also use the time to finish the Online Modules (Edit Topic: ONLINE MODULES | LC-1310 - Academic Communication for MSc Students (o,w), Lecture, 9.1.2024-16.4.2024 | MyCourses (aalto.fi)).

    Paraphrasing, Summarising, and Punctuation

You will explore more deeply the activity of successfully paraphrasing and summarising (especially to avoid plagiarising). You will focus on the use of commas in the Online Module to improve readability and avoid misunderstandings. Make sure you take your time to understand all the rules listed in the Online Module, and to finish all the exercises. Remember to watch the video – Paraphrasing and Summarizing (5 min)

    Presentation

Keep in mind that you will have only 10 minutes to present your review topic. Therefore, you will need to carefully plan and organise it with some clear differences from your written report. You will NOT be able to include all the information presented in your review report. You will NOT just be reading out your written report!

You will have learned about how to organise your presentation just as you did with writing including reminders on the expected basic presentation structure (intro, body and conclusion) and how to structure those sections. For example, you have learned about effective attention-getters for introductions and essential moves for the conclusion. You will also find out how to link the main sections and create connections between ideas in your presentation with useful language (often called transitions, signposts and linkers).

You can now start to create your presentation based on the online you submitted on the topic of your review report, containing an introduction, the main points in the body section, and a conclusion. The introduction must include an attention-getter. This stage is an often over-looked stage in presentation planning. Yet, when you put some careful thought into it, you are well on your way towards a successful presentation.
