Symmetries (MS-E1997 Course with Varying Content V)
Please register for the course in Oodi.
Description:This course is an introduction to representation theory, the mathematical study of symmetries, which is applicable to a vast number of topics in pure mathematics, science, and engineering. Notably, modern particle physics relies crucially on representation theory. The course covers both discrete and continuous symmetries: we begin with representations of finite groups, and then move on to representations of Lie groups and Lie algebras.
Notice:The exam of the course will take place on Thursday, October 22 at 14-18 in meeting room Tuuma (M235a).
The lecture of Thursday, October 15, is cancelled.
The lecture times were changed from the originally announced ones! The lecture and exercise times will be:
- Monday 12-14 (M3): Lecture
- Wednesday 12-14 (Y346): Exercises
