Welcome to the home page of Yhd-12.3120 Global Water Problems course!
The course runs for the entire autumn (Period I-II), with Reading Circles and Lectures during Period I (Mon & Wed 2-4pm: details here) and group work i.e. case studies during Period II. Kindly note that you should be present in 80% of the Reading Circles and Lectures.
The group work sessions during Period II are Wednesday 4.11 @ 2-6pm (Mid-Term Presentations) and Wednesday 2.12 @ 2-6 pm (Case Study Lectures), with preparatory sessions on two previous Mondays (2.11 & 30.11) as well as on Wednesday 18.11 @ 2-4pm. Also remember the Reflection & Feedback Session on Wednesday 9.12 @ 2-5pm.
The students for the course are selected based on their Motivation Letters: submit yours during your registration through Oodi. The registration is open until September 7th, 2015.
This year's course focuses on three interconnected themes; WATER, SUSTAINABILITY & GOVERNANCE. The case study work is done in groups, and the groups are defined during the first lecture. The case study themes are: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Mekong River Basin; Nepal water project; Baltic Sea; and Talvivaara mine. For more information, see Case studies sub-page.
UNVEIL YOUR EXPERTISE + MAKE USE OF OTHER COURSES, TOO!
The idea is that the course forms a student-driven & teacher-facilitated learning process, building on the students' earlier experience and knowledge as well as current interests. Hence, please do unveil and use your expertise on these themes!
We also hope that you make active use of your other on-going courses, and encourage you to participate in the relevant lectures of other interesting courses organised at the same time. This also relates to one of your individual tasks, which is to write a 200-word reflection on two 'extra lectures' organised in some other courses: for more information, see here.
