LEARNING OUTCOMES

Through short creative projects, the student will become familiar with moldmaking and casting techniques, and understand which types of form can be reproduced with different casting materials and techniques.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    The course concentrates on mold making techniques, as well as mold and casting materials.
    Students learn to make molds using a variety of materials and forms, learn one-piece and multi-piece moldmaking, and to perceive which mold and casting material is most suitable for which purpose.
    Depending on the student's project, the following mold techniques are studied: Single and multiple-use molds from plaster, soft molds from silicon and alginate mold. Casting materials such as plaster, concrete, wax and acrylic resin are investigated. Two sessions will be spent working in the glass studios. 

    There will be an exhibition in the end of the course that will showcase the artworks created during the course. 

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Individual and small group discussion and critique. Active participation in classwork. Successful completion of own project.

Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    3 weeks of very intensive course, exhibition building and critique. Student is expected to be present during all contact teaching days, as well as complete self-directed tasks.

    Priority order in course registration  1. Students in Sculpture minor 2. Degree Students in ARTS

    Minimum amount of participants is 8 students. Maximum amount of participants is 15 students.

    After the registration has closed, SISU conducts a raffle to allocate all the seats while considering the possible prioritisation order stated above. If there are more registrants than available seats, ten (10) students from the remaining applicants are drawn and placed on a waiting list in numerical order. On the first day of the course, these students may check for available seats in case of no-shows. Any available seats are then filled in numerical order. Students on the waiting list will receive an email containing details about the registration status, once the registration period has closed.

    Course completion requires at least 80% attendance and completion of assigned work given by the teachers by a specific deadline. The 20 % possibility to be absent is primarily allocated for sick days and other unforeseen circumstances. This course is taught on campus. You may take part in this course if your aim is to get credits.
