Topic outline

  • About: Multidisciplinary student teams will propose solutions to a real life challenge (on sustainable wood-based thermoplastic materials for packaging applications) provided by UPM. The challenge will be opened up through a short introduction and a whole-day excursion to a mill site. Each team will work out its proposal during the boot camp days and make a pitching presentation at the end. Jury members from UPM and Aalto University will give feedback on the proposals and presentations. The course is open for all Aalto undergraduate and master's students to apply.

    Learning outcomes:  Working in multidisciplinary teams, working with real life problems, presentation skills.

    27.2.2019 at 15:30-17: Introduction and challenge description (Aalto University/ARTS, Väre building, room Q202)

    20.3.2019, whole day: Mill excursion to UPM Raflatac mill (Tampere)

    2-3.4.2019, whole days: Boot camp  (UPM Biofore House, Helsinki)

    Student selection: Four teams with 4-6 students in each team will be formed. The selection results and the teams will be announced by 15.2.2019.

    Selection criteria: Motivation and mindset, complementing competences in multidisciplinary teams.
