How will the course proceed?
The course comprises five sections, each of which includes exercises. A large portion of the exercises (as audio files) concern mindfulness. Mindfulness exercises affect the areas of the brain related to emotional regulation, and therefore they can help to create the basis for building self-compassion skills. However, for the change to take effect, a few weeks of regular mindfulness exercises are required at a minimum. Mindfulness exercises can be compared to working out in a gym: you start to see the results only after you have exercised enough. For this reason, it is recommended that the course be completed stage by stage, in order, daily repeating the exercises from each stage for about a week before moving on to the next stage.
If you wish, you can use the course material alone without performing the regular exercises, and in that way progress through the material more quickly. This may be a good alternative if your self-compassion skills are already in good order and your goal with this course is just to increase your self-knowledge and look at coping and recovery in new ways.
