Course Information

The SELECT Project of the Year begins in the first of the SELECT MSc programme. The Project of the Year is a year-long project supervised jointly by a company and supervisors from the university. The students gain training in problem solving and group dynamics for mastering complex energy systems analyses.

The project is chosen by the company, and the students work in teams of 8-10 students to solve the case problem.

Learning Outcomes

After the course, the student shall be able to:
  • Design a system based on a given problem description.
  • Perform analyses of energy systems, where the primary energy sources and energy services are included in the systems of study.
  • Perform an overall commercial analys of the prospective product or service, as the project is supposed to lead to.
  • Orally describe the aim of the work, methodology and results.

Course Deliverables


PRO 1 - Project report: Presentation of the project proposal at the end of the autumn term. Proposal containing, an Executive Summary, through analysis of the problem, well justifiable solution criteria addressing the scopes of ILOs (intended learning comes) specified for the course.

PRO2 - Project report: Presentation of the final project at the end of the spring term. Project report containing, an Executive Summary, complete description of the problem, selection presentation of the solution, sensitivity and risk analysis, generalizations and exploring the possibilities of business creations; basically covering the scopes of ILOs specified for the course.
