Learning materials 2: Logical fallacies (learn the concept and take the quiz)
The purpose of this assignment is to learn to understand the concept logical fallacy. They are, in fact, opinions disguised as facts and involve incorrect reasoning. Logical fallacies are often unintentionally present in persuasive speeches, and they can undermine your credibility. However, they may also be used on purpose to make a weak argument appear stronger, to elicit common agreement, or to manipulate the listener's attitudes or emotions.
Although
the reasons you provide to prove the validity of your claim should be
primarily based on strong evidence, you may also consider providing
additional support in the form of 'weak' evidence involving opinions or even logical fallacies. Once you know how to identify a logical fallacy, you'll also know how to avoid them as well as when using one might make your message more convincing.
