LEARNING OUTCOMES

After the course, the students are expected to:

  • Understand the most important concepts of sustainability
  • Understand the connections between sustainability and circular economy
  • Know better about links between the different research groups and their research
  • Know how to consider sustainability and circular economy in practical projects
  • Create a professional identity as an expert and developer of the field
  • Improve skills in project and group working in a design group and communication
  • Learn to evaluate other’s work

Content

    It provides the basic knowledge of sustainability, circular economy in civil engineering. This course can be connected to the other courses about sustainability at either Aalto University or other universities.

    The course grade consists of flipped classroom presentations and group projects and presentations. More details will be announced in the course syllabus and the first lecture.

    40 participants. Priorities will be given to CIV and GEO students in the Department of Civil Engineering.

    Following pritorities are accepted on 11th December 2023:

    1. Second-year* (or higher) master’s students in both Building Technology (CIV) or Geoengineering (GEO) master’s programmes

    2. Doctoral students in both Building technology or Geoengineering

    3. Exchange students to both Building Technology (CIV) or Geoengineering (GEO) master’s programme

    4. First-year* master’s students in both Building Technology (CIV) or Geoengineering (GEO) master’s programmes

    5. Other exchange students or students from other programmes/universities etc.
