CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

Lectures, presentations, exercises, independent work. Students develop a personal contemporary sculpture project. All students take part in an exhibition at the end of the course.

  • Applies in this implementation:

The theme for this year's course is "SPACE - The Final Frontier" (Yes, from Star Trek...!) Students can interpret this topic in any way they want, but the goal of the course will be for each student to create and present in public exhibition a sculptural work or installation. The theme is deliberately open, allowing multiple approaches. Students may wish to deal with space in relation to physical size - large, small, tall, etc. Or take a political stance, as in who does space belong to - is "the final frontier" literally the opening up of borders to immigrants, or the opposite?

The course focuses on the development of contemporary sculpture. There are no limits to materials that can be used, apart from those practical ones such as cost and time. Students wishing to participate should have a good prior knowledge and experience of making contemporary art, and be prepared to devote considerable independent working time to the course project.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

The students implement a sculpture or installation based on their own idea. The course may include lectures, excursions, discussions and critiques.

  • Applies in this implementation:

Contact teaching is every week on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday mornings there will usually be a lecture/presentation, either by Andy Best-Dunkley, or visiting guest artists.

Students are expected to work at least one other day per week on developing their project.

Students will be evaluated based on their active participation in class, their willingness to enter into dialogue with the teacher and so develop their ideas, and the final execution and presentation of their sculptural project.
