The course is divided into three weeks.

1st Week
  • Lectures and examples on creating art with electronics
  • Learning about basic electronic components
  • Learning how to use basic electronics tools (multimeter, soldering iron, oscilloscope etc.)
  • How to read and create schematics
  • How to prototype circuits on a breadboard
  • Building example projects

2nd Week
  • Lectures and examples on creating art with electronics
  • How to use and program Arduino and other microcontrollers
  • How to use various types of sensors
  • How to use motors and other actuators
  • Basics of PCB design
  • Presentation of project ideas
3rd Week

  • Tutoring and working on the final project

Course is graded pass/fail.

Additional written feedback will be given to the students individually.

Contact teaching:
36h (lectures, demonstrations and tutoring)

Student's personal work outside the contact teaching hours:
45h (includes time for reflection and planning). 
This amounts to 15 hours of personal work for each week outside the classes.

The student is required to attend minimum 80% of the scheduled classes.

Attending at least 80% of lectures and presenting a final project is required to successfully pass the course. (3 credits)

Additional credit may be awarded if the final project shows exceptional effort and quality of work.

1st Week
  • Tue – Voltage, Current, Resistance, Basic Components and Tools
  • Wed – LEDs, Oscillators, Timers and Sequencers
  • Thu – Simple Synthesizer
  • Fri – Driving Larger Loads (Transistors, Relays), Soldering Exercise

2nd Week

During the second week we are going to look into digital electronics and programming microcontrollers. Each student will build a small robot during the week that builds on the knowledge learned during the course.

  • Tue – Arduino Basics
  • Wed – Making Things See, Hear and Feel (Sensors, ADC, I2C)
  • Thu – Making Things Move and Blink (Different Motors and Actuators/Lights/Robotics & Mechatronics)
  • Fri – Communication (Serial, OSC, MIDI, Keyboard, HID)

3rd Week

During the 3rd week, each students works on their personal project. Detailed project guidelines will provided in the beginning of the course.
